Massive Fine For Coach Company

A coach company has received fines and been ordered to pay court costs which total 254,565. This particulartly large fine was awarded for multiple drivers hours and other tachograph offences although further details of the offences have not been released.

VOSA's Eastern Region Investigations Team had spent at least ten weeks investigating EPI Coaches Ltd who were originally investigated eight months ago in June 2009. We can only assume this was following a failed roadside inspection where a drivers tacho disks or digital data were examined and found to be lacking, having a knock on effect to the OCRS of the licence which lead to further inspections.

Alex Fiddes (Operations Director for VOSA) said: "VOSA are dedicated to improving road safety and a large proportion of that is ensuring drivers are adhering to the rules set in place"

Curerntly, EPI Coaches Ltd's operators licence is listed as "surrendered", meaning the business can not operate. Where this leaves the 20 coach strong business is uncertain but it does demonstrate quite clearly where poor transport management can lead a business.

There is also a case against the companies eleven employed drivers which should be heard on the 16th Feb.
