A driver must be clear about what duties they are expected to perform. It is the operator’s responsibility to demonstrate that a driver is aware of their duties, what documents must be completed and when. This is best communicated by a driver hand book; the requirement of a driver handbook is also an inclusive part of a legislation compliance audit that may be requested by a Traffic Commissioner.

Lost Wheels Cost Lives!
Wheel security is paramount to any vehicle operator and is a special concern of the DVSA and the Traffic Commissioners.
An operator of HGVs or PSVs must be able to demonstrate that when a wheel has been removed, it has been re-fitted correctly and to the correct tightness (the correct torque). Also, that it has been rechecked to ensure it has remained secure.
It is imperative that all operators have a recognised wheel security procedure and also a documented record of all wheel removals and refitting.
